Emily Arledge, Ph.D.

I’m a Visiting Assistant Professor of History at Saint Vincent College, where I teach public history and American history. I received a Ph.D. in 2023 from Loyola University of Chicago’s Public History/American History program.

My dissertation, “Enshrining Memory: The Production of an American Catholic Past,” combined my interests in public history, memory studies, and American Catholicism. It examined how Catholics curated a public memory of American history at shrines and museums across the country.

Museums and historic sites remain a passion. Although you can find me in front of a classroom these days, I gained experience at public history sites of various sizes. I utilize public history projects to connect students with their local past and global community. My current project is creating a digital form of my dissertation’s research to engage new audiences.
